13. Nail Dip Powder

Let me start off this post by saying that traditional nail dip powder was previously always applied with gel polish and UV curing. While this is perfectly fine for  most people, it's not something that's for me. As I have stated in earlier posts, I choose to use something that's more permeable to the nail bed because of my B vitamin deficiency. Everything doesn't have to be for everyone. :)

So, instead, my focus is on alternate methods of applying chrome-style and colored dip powders to nails. Did you know that you can use regular nail polish instead of gel? That's right, you can! You can also use mica powder for pigmentation. It's basically the same thing that eyeshadow (along with other ingredients, of course) is made from.

For a true chrome finish, you would need to apply the powder with an applicator over the top of your polish. Buff it in, then top with a top coat when done.

For an alternate version or when not using gel polish as the base coat, you can coat your painted nail with Sticky Base Coat. Let it dry to touch. Put the powder on an old stamper head, and press onto the nail. Let dry, and dust off any extra powder. Top with top coat when done. Try a layer of smudge free top coat first, then a lacquer over that after dry.

Instead of stamping it on, you could also try rubbing the powder right onto the nail.
